Instead your focus should be on the tabletop and sides. The tabletop you want to have in a material that is fitting this room. That could mean a wooden top, with carved or gold gilded accents or even perhaps a marble top that suits the theme. When it comes to those ends, try to see if you can find something that has a bit of an ornate or decorative touch - carved roses and similar accents are common.
Open Room
If you have an open room plan where the sofa tables are going to be right up against the sofas you have more to think about when it comes to making a purchase. Depending on how people walk into the room, the sofa tables may be the first thing they see and their first impression of this room. Make it count!
You should go all out looking for a beautiful and ornate piece that really speaks volumes about your Victorian decorating style. From carved cherubs to roses and other details that are fit for royalty, there are no limits to what you can select.
The only consideration you may want to make is to make sure that you can still use it the way you want and that it will fit up snugly behind the sofa instead of being so ornate and flourishy that it doesn't quite fit.
